When you are experiencing a certain kind of problem, it will become necessary for you to see a certain kind of doctor. You are probably thinking, “Where can I find a doctor in my area?”  It’s hard to know where to find a doctor, especially to know where to find a doctor that is good and that can do what you need him or her to do. There are lots of doctors out there, but knowing where to find a doctor that is right for you is never easy.

You might want to begin by asking any doctor you currently know for a recommendation of where to find a doctor in your area. Perhaps you have a friend in medical school who knows where to find a doctor that’s best, or else a friend who knows of one. Getting referrals is one of the best ways to find a good doctor in your area, and you should get the names of as many as possible because some of them who are very busy may not be accepting new patients.

Once you have 3 or 4 good referrals, then you should go to the doctor that has been most highly recommended to you. If your family doctor or your friend from medical school helped you to know where to find a doctor in your area that they claim is good, then try that one first.

Find out the doctor’s credentials simply by asking around. Your friend from medical school or family doctor should have some idea, and if not, you can ask others who have visited that doctor. Otherwise, simply ask the doctor himself, or look around his office for any diplomas or certification.  Don’t forget to check with friends and relatives as well.  If you ask them, “Can you help me find a doctor in my area?” they will most likely not turn  down your request. Who hasn’t been there?  They will understand the immediate need for your question.

Once you know where to find a doctor in your area that fits your needs and know that he or she has good credentials, you can rest easily knowing that you have somewhere to go if anything goes wrong.
